Why I Use Weebly
Weebly was introduced to me a couple years ago by my son's teacher. I had offered to build her a web site since I design and host them independently. She immediately jumped at the offer and then mentioned Weebly since it was being used by the Tony Tobin Elementary School fourth grade team. That hadn't been what I had in mind, and I wasn't sure I was going to like it. But I also recognized there would be some major advantages for the teacher. While there are still features I'm not 100% thrilled with, the advantages to using Weebly for teacher web sites significantly outweigh the disadvantages.
- If you want to make changes to your own web site, Weebly gives you that ability without having to learn html, have html editing software, or figure out how to ftp
- Weebly allows you to visually drag elements onto your page and add content similarly to other programs you already know and use. It doesn't require you to know programming or own any web editing software.
- I can set up an account on your behalf, add myself as an adminstrator, then send the login and password information to you along with instructions on how to change the default password I've created. This means I can create and/or update the site without having your password. You can also remove me as the administrator whenever you want. This gives you complete control over your own web site. That's important to me.
- Weebly is automatically set up to support browsing on smart phones. This means parents can access things like reading lists, content standards, or any other content on your page while away from home.
- Weebly is free and I charge only for my time in creating and/or updating (see the pricing page for details). Once you have a site, it's your decision what you do with it. If you want to update your own site after I create it, then there is no cost to go forward.
- I provide you with comprehensive written instructions on how to update and add content to the site with Weebly. It remains my goal to get all teachers to have informative and relevant web sites for their parents and students. It's not my goal to force you to use me to update your site, but I'll certainly do it to free up your time.
